Just-A-Gear Head

Hi!

My name is Rocky Jewel, “Dr. Jewel,” and I’d like to tell you a little about my background in the automotive field.

It all began in my Grandfathers auto shop when I was a nine year old (1953,) I had to know how things worked. I then began in school to dream up ways to go faster. I excelled in all the Science, Material and Shop classes. I was told to go into the Army because of my racing on the streets. The Army was very good for me as I was able to use the G.I. bill to go on to college studying Automotive Design and Engineering.  I’ve since worked in auto shops, tool and die machines, at Boeing as an N. C. Machinist, A.O.G. Machinist, Tooling, Tooling A.O.G., M. R. & D., Tooling Quality Assurance, N. C. Laser and Quality Assurance Administration Support. I have made parts that are on the Moon, Mars, outer space and all over the world.

Teams that I have worked on are I.H.R.A., N.H.R.A., Hydro-boats, N.A.S.C.A.R., I.R.L. “Indy 500” and Bonneville.

I’m currently working on a new design for a land-speed record vehicle, with Wichita State Research and Development, Jim’s Brown Engineering Enterprise, New Technology. I am using new software for testing, CAD/CAM Engineering Designs, Aerodynamic, etceteras. I also work with the Boy’s Scouts, teaching Design, Aerodynamics and Racing.

I am also the V. P. of the Boeing Racing Club.

And The Inch Goes On
